Bio
Kyle Fang (b. 1997) is a contemporary photographic artist born in Zhongshan, China, and is based in Vancouver, BC—on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
Fang became interested in photography in his elementary and high school days from lessons of film photography, darkroom, and photojournalism through the mentoring of several teachers. Guided by the mantra that, “all things are photographable,” Fang dedicates himself to documenting everyday life around him as his work asks us to ponder on the social landscape, the life that permeates it, and the beauty of light and form in the mundane. He works with film and commits to the delicate, tangible process of developing his own black and white film and making silver gelatin prints in the darkroom.
Fang’s work has been shown in group and solo exhibitions, as well as in his photo book, Delta, self-published in 2020. He is a member of the West End Photographic Society (WESP) and the Vancouver Street Photography Collective (VanSPC).
